This course presents an experiential and cognitive study of personal adjustment. Students participate in a series of group discussions designed to help the student better understand his or her own adjustment to situations, as well as to learn general principles of personal and interpersonal functioning. Students are expected to conduct a self-modification project based on cognitive-behavioral techniques for behavior change.
Goals and Objectives
To acquaint students with a general theory of behavior and to provide concrete information on how to achieve the one’s goals.
To present a workable set of skills that students can use for tackling their own self-modification programs, whether it be to improve self-confidence in dating, control overeating, implement an exercise program, or give up smoking. A Self-Modification paper is a requirement for this course.
To teach the basic skills necessary to modify the behavior of their choice through methods based on published studies in psychological literature.
To help them generalize the skills learned in different settings.
