Description
Networking Technologies provides a baseline level of knowledge for success in industry and preparation for networking certifications. The course has a focus on networking local area networks and wide area networks. Included is coverage of IP addressing, IP routing, and the Cisco IOS. Students use a router and switch simulator to gain hands-on practical experience.
Goals and Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:
• Understand the basic networked communications and services
• Design/construct a network layout
• Explain how network hardware communicates throughout the network
• Understand the OSI reference model’s layers and their relationships to both networking hardware and software
• Understand the different networking protocols and their functions
• Discuss the differences between centralized and client/server computing
• How to create a network security plan
• Describe the basic concepts associated with a wide area network
• Understand the necessity for networking standards, policies and procedures, and documentation
