AIT107 Computer Applications

Description
This is an introductory course designed to provide students with a basic orientation to computer hardware and to teach the implementation of software applications in telecommunications. Students will use various software packages to create documents, spreadsheets, graphs, and databases and will use the knowledge gained to solve problems and transfer information via electronic media.
There are TWO version of this class available: Computer Applications for Microsoft Office 2003 (only available if you currently own 2003 software - not offered by bookstore) and Computer Applications for Microsoft Office 2007 (available in bookstore). If you are taking the Microsoft Office 2007 course, there are two options when ordering the book – one using the VISTA Operating system, and one using the WINDOWS XP Operating system. We will help you decide which book to order, but the class you will register for will be the same. Please note however, the Professional version of the software is needed since it comes with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point AND Access in either course.
Goals and Objectives
- To learn the fundamentals of document management.
- To become familiar with various software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point to create and edit text documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
- To demonstrate mastery of skills and use telecommunications vocabulary and concepts to complete word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation projects.
- To use the PC to create, edit, and print basic business documents using Word for Windows.
- To use and manipulate Excel in order to create, edit, and print basic spreadsheets as well as create, format, and print charts.
- To learn about the structure and functions of a database application and how to create, edit, and query tables as well as create reports using Access.
- To create a basic slide show presentation using Power Point.
- To establish and maintain contact with instructors and classmates through a combination of email and discussion board interaction
