INT196C Integrity Issues in Telecommunications

Description
This course introduces students to the philosophical area of ethics in the workplace, focusing primarily on the telecommunications industry. Students will explore social, legal, ethical, political, constitutional, and economic implications of computing and telecommunications from the perspectives of computer professionals and telecommunications workers. Important issues such as the impact of computers on privacy, censorship of the Internet, and risks from failures of computer systems will be covered to help understand the effect that computers and telecommunications have on our society.
Goals and Objectives
- To analyze some of the social, legal, ethical, political, constitutional and economic issues as they relate to computing and telecommunications.
- To consider how codes of behavior for the telecommunications professions can be developed.
- To explore how such codes can be applied to different activities that computer and telecommunications professionals may encounter.
- To understand the effects that computers and telecommunications have on our society.
