SPRING 2019:  (6 weeks) This course will run from February 7th to March 20, 2019.

This course provides a fast-paced introduction to some of the most exciting and interesting social media and interactive Web technologies in use today.  You will gain a solid understanding about the current trends in technology and the concepts associated with interactive information sharing and new Web applications.  You will gain knowledge about Web-based communities, social networking, and video and file sharing sites.  This introductory course will provide you with a chance to learn about blogs, podcasts, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as many other new and emerging social media technologies.  This course will be limited to the first 20 who register.

Goals and Objectives


At the end of this course, students will be able to:


1 – Discuss how the Web has changed and the features of interactive Web applications


2 – Publish online using Blogs

o   Create a Blog using Blogger

o   Blog with Multimedia (video and images)

o   Create blog posts using Blog Content Creator


3 – Syndicate content

o   Explore and use Web Feeds (RSS) and Feed Readers such as Feedly

o   Explore and create Podcasts and post them to SoundCloud and to Blogger


4 – Organize information

o   Organize digital information on the Web

o   Share and tag photos on Flickr

o   Set up Slideshare account; Searching on slideshare


5 – Use Social Networking applications to connect with people

o   Discuss using social networking to connect to people with special interests and for business uses

o   Use Facebook

o   Use LinkedIn to establish business contacts with social media

o   Use Twitter


6 – Discuss and become familiar with social media business applications and social media privacy concerns

o   Distributed Web applications

o   Set up Slideshare account; create videos
