Dr. Rebecca Martin
Associate Professor of English

Courses Offered/Role in Department

Dr. Martin currently teaches American Detective Fiction and Literature of the Supernatural for the Pace University/NACTEL program.  In addition to this, she teaches English literature and world literature on campus for Pace.  Her area of specialization is the 18th century Gothic novel, which led to her more recent interest in detective and mystery fiction.

Additional Information

Dr. Martin was raised in an Air Force family, and had lived on two continents, several states and various islands prior to completing her B.A. in English at the University of Oklahoma.  She received her M.A. in English at the University of Iowa, and worked for a short time with the U.S. Geological Survey in Madison, Wisconsin.  In 1981, she came to New York and began teaching for Pace University.  She also served as Assistant Dean in the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, holding that position for more than 15 years.  She returned to graduate study at the City University of New York Graduate School, completing her dissertation on the English Gothic novel of the 18th century in 1994.  Soon after, she began to teach full-time at Pace.
